The Burning Furnaces is the fire section of the dungeon, featuring fire elemental variants of some enemies, forge and mine themed props, and a boss fight with Flame Empress Zeal at the end.
Ambience[ | ]
This entire dungeon is designed to feel like it is hot to the touch, true to its element. The walls of the castle are made from a warm-gray stone, broken at intervals of a bit of glowing orange, and the gaps found throughout are filled with lava, giving the appearance that the area is underground in a volcano. Fire is the common hazard found throughout the dungeon, requiring special care on the player's part. The color scheme involves warm-gray and oranges, used in contrast with each other to produce an ember effect.
Enemies[ | ]
Enemies unique to this castle include the Fire Archer, Fire Lancer, Fire Knight, Fire Mage, Fire Rogue, and Fire Summoner. The Zoner unique to this level is a living furnace, slow moving but intermittedly spewing fireballs in random locations nearby. All enemies unique to this level make deadly use of their element's special trait: Burning.
Hazards[ | ]
All hazards in Burning Furnaces inflict Burning. Rooms can be found lined with walls of fire, discouraging contact with the edges and requiring special care by the player to avoid straying to the boundaries of the room. There are sections where flames blocking the path will, at timed intervals, ignite and extinguish, requiring careful timing by the player.
