Shock Nova is a Standard Lightning Arcana in Wizard of Legend
Description[]
Hold the attack button to charge up a circle of lightning as denoted by the magic circle. When button is released a spoked circle of lighting streams is created around the player that deals 3 hits of 10 damage with each hit also applying level 2 shock. When fully charged the circle of lightning deals 5 hits of 10 damage and applies level 3 shock.
If enhanced, the circle of lighting cover a larger radius and takes less time to reach full charge
Charged Signature: Create four overlapping circles of lightning over an extremely large area which deal 10 hits of 10 damage and applying level 5 shock.
Strategies[]
This arcana is notable for its offensive capabilities due to its massive range and good damage. However, because it is a charge arcana, the player must be aware when a good time is to charge; even when not fully charged, this arcana retains its excellent range.
Use this arcana after foes are stunned from other arcana to maximize the amount of time the player can safely charge, then follow-up while foes are suffering shock. Alternatively, take advantage of this arcana's wall-piercing properties and charge it up around a corner while allowing foes to approach you, then release it once they have direct line of sight to the player as most foes will not attempt to attack until then.
The charged Signature version can be held beforehand but will not affect the arcana in any way. Its incredible range and instantaneous cast can even clear rooms through walls.
Spell combos[]
- As it shocks and immobilizes many enemies simultaneously, Shock Nova pairs well with any slow spells such as Stalwart Defenders, Crashing Meteor or Ion Spike.
- For effective crowd control, use Shock Nova to stun enemies and follow-up with wide area, high damage arcana (e.g. Tidal Blast, Blazing Lariat, Null Parade)
- Tearing Whirlwind can be used to pull many enemies in before casting Shock Nova to ensure that they will be hit.
- Shock Nova is a good follow-up for many jump arcana such as Heroic Blaze, Seismic Entry, Heroic Leap or Thunder Drop.
- Other arcana that cover a wide 360 degree area around the player (e.g. Terra Ring, Searing Crown, Aqua Vortex, Whirling Tornado) pair well with Shock nova due to their similar area of effect.
Item combos[]
- Indra's Copper Pipe increases the duration of the shock.
- Secret Wild Card and Megalodon Tooth pair well with the charged Signature of Shock Nova due to its fast cast time.
- As Shock Nova has multiple hits, any on-hit Relic such as Phoenix Talon and Noxious Dappercap will be useful.
- Keep in mind that Permafrost Cube will not work with Shock Nova, as even if the enemy is frozen, they will instantly be unfrozen by the shock damage.
Additional notes[]
- Note the cooldown begins as soon as the cast key is pressed. If held for long enough, it is possible to cast this arcana twice in quick succession.
- The shock applies by each hit is overridden by the shock from the next hit causing it to deal only 1 tick of 2 damage. The shock from the final hit deals full damage as it is not cut short.
